A Brightspace course shell is automatically created for every course in the USC schedule of classes. Each course is inactive and hidden from students until the instructor chooses to make the course active to students. Prior to the first day of class, it is recommended that instructors activate their Brightspace course.

Activate Your Brightspace Course
1. Navigate to the course you would like to activate in Brightspace. Courses that need to be activated will show as ‘Inactive’.
2. Select Course Tools from within the course. From the dropdown menu, select Course Admin.
3. From the Course Admin screen, select Course Offering Information.
4. From the Course Offering Information screen, select the checkbox Course is Active. Click on Save. Your course is now active and visible to students. Note: It may take some time for the Inactive message to disappear from the instructor view, but students will immediately see the course.
Making Content Visible
After you have activated your course, it is helpful to ensure content within your course is also visible. Use the eye icon on the right side of your course material to confirm your course content is visible. Toggle the eye icon to make course content visible to students when you are ready for students to view the material.
