When setting up a course, instructors can select from pre-created grade schemes to use when assessing students’ work. There is also the option to create new grade schemes if the existing ones are not suitable. We recommend following the Academic Standards as outlined by USC.
Instructions
- Click My Grades on the Navbar and select Grades from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the Schemes tab.
- Click on New Scheme.
- Fill in the details for the new grade scheme. This includes:
- Name
- Short Name
- Ranges
- Symbol or text you want to display in Grades when the grade is set. For example, letter grade (A+, A, B+, B and so on), Pass/Fail, or text (Needs work, Proficient, Excels).
- Start % which defines the starting threshold for the proficiency range.
- Color that provides a visual cue in Grades to quickly identify grade trends. This field is optional.
- Assigned Value % defines the numeric grade you want learners to achieve when you evaluate them using this grade scheme. This is most useful if you use a selectbox grade item. Standard practice is to have this field match Start %. This field is optional.
- To include additional ranges in the grade scheme, use the Add Ranges button.
- Once finished, click Save and Close.
