It is possible to delete grade items and grade categories that are no longer relevant. However, you can only delete grade items that are not associated with anything in your course. If a grade item is associated with an assignment, discussion, or quiz, then the association must be removed first.
Remove Grade Item Association from Assignments
- Note: This process can also be applied to discussions and quizzes that are associated with grade items.
- Hover over Activities on the Navbar and select Assignments from the dropdown menu.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the assignment associated with a grade item and select Edit Assignment from the dropdown list.
- Click In Grade Book and select Not in Grade Book from the dropdown menu. You could also click on Reset to Ungraded if the option is available.
- Afterward, click Save and Close.
Delete Grade Item
- Click My Grades on the Navbar and select Grades from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the Manage Grades tab.
- Click on More Actions and select Delete from the dropdown menu.
- Click the checkbox next to each grade item or category that should be deleted.
- Click Delete.
- Note: Selecting a category does not select the grade items within the selected category. If you delete a category, the grade items associated with it become independent grade items.
- Note: You cannot delete grade items that are associated with another course object, such as a quiz, discussion topic, or assignment. To delete the item, you must first remove the association. Click the Question Mark icon to see the association.
