Brightspace allows instructors to edit quiz questions after some or all students have already completed a quiz. There are two steps to modifying quiz questions after an attempt: 1) re-grading the quiz question for submitted attempts, and 2) updating the question with the correct answer choice for future attempts.

Re-grading Quiz Questions

  1. On the course homepage, click Activities in the nav bar, then click Quizzes.
  1. Find the quiz in which you want to edit the questions or its answer choices, click the dropdown arrow next to it, and select Grade from the menu.
  1. Click on the Questions tab.
  1. Select Update All Attempts.
  1. Click on the question that needs to be regraded.
  1. From here, you can determine if you want to give all students credit or if you would like to accept multiple answers. Note: You can only accept multiple answers for questions with multiple options (e.g. multiple choice, true or false, etc.). Written response questions can only be updated to give all students credit. You cannot include negative numbers as a grade.
  1. Click Save.
Regrading Multi-Select, Ordering, and Matching Question Types

When instructors choose to add one of these question types to a quiz, they have three different grading options:

  • Equally Weighted – Each individual answer is equally weighed in the overall question score.
  • All or Nothing – Students must get all individual answers correct to get any points.
  • Right Minus Wrong – Students gain points for each correct answer and lose points for each incorrect answer.

Multi-select, ordering, and matching question types configured with Equally Weighted grading settings can be regraded with the steps outlined in the section above. To regrade questions configured with All or Nothing or Right Minus Wrong grading settings, refer to the instructions below.

  1. Follow steps 1- 3 from the Re-grading Quiz Questions section above. Once on the Questions tab, ensure Grade Individual Responses is selected.
  1. Scroll down to the Questions that are not in the quiz anymore section and select the question that needs to be regraded. Note: If you do not see it under this heading, select it wherever it appears on the list of questions.
  1. Update the Score field with the correct value.
  1. Click Save.
  1. Click on the forward arrow to move on to the next student. Note: Steps 3 – 5 must be repeated for each quiz submission that needs to be regraded.
