Google Drive in Brightspace allows you to use Google Workspace to share and organize course files.
Instructions
Add Google Drive Files to Course Content
- From your course homepage, click on Content in the navbar.
- Once on the content page, select the module in the left column you want to add content from Google Drive. (1) Click on Existing Activities, then (2) click Google Drive.
- If this is your first time using Google Drive in Brightspace, click Sign in, agree to the terms, and log in with your USC credentials.
- To add a live link, in the pop-up window, (1) select the file from your Google Drive. (2) Ensure the box is checked to Allow everyone in your organization to view and (3) click Add.
To add an offline version of the file, you do not need to check the Allow everyone in your organization to view box. Click Upload.
Note: Uploaded offline files will automatically convert from Google files to Microsoft files, which may cause formatting issues.
- Your Google file is now added to the module. If a live link was added, click the drop-down arrow next to the file, click Edit Properties in Place, then check the box for Open as an External Resource to ensure the link opens properly for students.
Add Google Drive Files to a Discussion Thread
- To add a Google Drive file to a discussion thread, click on upload.
- If this is your first time using Google Drive in Brightspace, click Sign in, agree to the terms, and log in with your USC credentials.
- To add a live link, in the pop-up window, (1) select the file from your Google Drive. (2) Ensure the box is checked to Allow everyone in your organization to view and (3) click Add.
To add an offline version of the file, you do not need to check the Allow everyone in your organization to view box. Click Upload.

- Ensure the (1) correct file is added and (2) click Post.
- The discussion post will show the attached file.
Add Google Drive Files to the Activity Feed and Assignments
The process of adding Google Drive files to the Activity Feed or Assignments is the same as the instructions above but requires the user to first click the Attach from Google Drive button. See the examples below:
